Chat from your phone

Use the Android companion to chat with the agent on your computer. The computer must stay awake with Solar Sailer running and your project open.

Connect your phone

Use desktop 0.4.6 and Android companion 0.2.11 for the saved-history and image-preview features described here. Update the phone under Settings > Update, then update the desktop from the Help menu.

Log in to the same Solar Sailer account on both devices. Your team's settings must allow phone pairing.

  1. On the computer, open Edit > Preferences… > Mobile Devices.
  2. Turn on Enable mobile companion.
  3. Click Pair a Phone to get a code.
  4. On the phone, open Settings > Desktops > + Add desktop.
  5. Choose your computer.
  6. Enter the code from the computer.
  7. Tap Pair.

The code expires after five minutes. If it expires, start pairing again on the computer to get a new code.

Once paired, open the phone's chat to send requests to the desktop Agent. The agent's account requirements still apply. See Log in and manage your account.

View pictures in the conversation

Screenshots captured by the agent show image previews in the chat. Newer previews load first. Tap a preview to open the full image. If a preview isn't available, use Tap to load.

Video excerpts are available through the action's details. Clips don't play inside the phone's viewer. Tap Save to send a clip to another app that can play it.

Images and videos you open are saved on the phone for reuse, with storage limits. Older saved items can be removed automatically to make room, but video downloads never push out the saved conversation or its image previews.

Continue after a connection interruption

When saved history is available, reopening the phone app can show the conversation and image previews while it reconnects. Refreshing… means the phone is still checking that history against the desktop. You can't send until the connection is ready.

Your unsent message and scroll position survive brief connection interruptions within the same project. If the desktop has switched projects, the phone changes to that project's conversation.

Saved history doesn't let you work offline. If the computer is offline, the connection is refused, or an update is required, the phone replaces the chat with instructions for that problem.

Remove a desktop from your phone

Unpairing removes this phone's access to the desktop and its automatically saved conversation and media. Pair again with a new code to reconnect. Files you sent to another app with Save remain with that app.

  1. Open Settings > Desktops on the phone.
  2. Tap Unpair for the computer you want to remove.
  3. Confirm the unpairing.

Automatically saved conversation and media are encrypted on the phone. Android also hides chat content from new app-switcher previews. On Android 12 and earlier, this protection blocks screenshots and screen sharing too.
