0.4.0
0.4.0 was released on 2026-08-18. It covers everything shipped since 0.3.0.
Highlights
- The installer is signed, and this is the last manual install. Windows now recognizes the publisher, so the SmartScreen "unknown publisher" warning is gone. From this version on the app checks for new releases on its own. When one is out, the Help menu offers Download Update, and one press of Install on the "Update ready" card applies it and reopens the app. No more downloading installers. During the minute the silent update takes to apply, an "Installing the Solar Sailer update..." window shows progress instead of the app just disappearing.
- The AI assistant is now a chat panel, not a terminal. Talking to the assistant happens in conversation bubbles, with each action it takes shown as a plain-English row ("Delete 12 ranges") with the affected clips named, a click-to-expand detail view, live progress, and a stop button. You can keep typing while it works to steer it, and attach files or paste screenshots into a message. The raw Terminal tab is still there next to the Agent tab if you want it, and each project now keeps its own assistant conversation across restarts.
- Approve before it acts, undo a whole turn after. When the assistant wants to do something significant it asks first. You approve, deny with a reason, or edit the value before approving, and those decisions survive a restart. A finished exchange can be reverted as one unit, even after your own edits landed on top. If a revert would conflict, it says so instead of half-reverting.
- The assistant shows its plan and its cost. A running to-do checklist tracks multi-step work across turns, a meter shows how full the assistant's working memory is, and each finished turn reports its tokens, cost, and edit count. Big transcript searches are handed to a sub-assistant so the main one stays responsive.
- Subtitle and transcript export. A new export menu item writes SRT, VTT, or plain text from any transcribed media, matching either your edited timeline or the full source recording.
- Markers grew a full UI. Double-click a marker to edit its name, note, color, and exact time. Hover one for a tooltip, drag range-marker edges and bodies, and drag a point marker's edge out to turn it into a range. A new Markers tab in the Properties panel lists them all with inline editing, and its Clear All button can also clear just the AI's markers or one color.
- Sync no longer scatters files from a single session. A short micro-clip could create false matches that bridged two unrelated parts of a session, and the cleanup pass then demoted the correctly placed files. Sync now cuts the bad connection instead. On the real-world project that exposed this, all 20 files land within 75 ms of the PluralEyes reference.
- Batch transcription runs in parallel. Transcribing many files at once now runs up to twelve at a time (configurable 1–50 in Preferences → Import), so a 10-file batch no longer takes ten times as long as one file.
Fixes and improvements
- Premiere/Resolve-style selection modifiers. Ctrl-click now toggles a clip in or out of the selection, just like Shift-click. Holding Shift or Ctrl while dragging a selection box adds to the selection instead of replacing it, and Escape mid-drag cleanly cancels. The selection box also highlights clips live as you drag.
- Rough Cut honors your Retake Review winner picks, and re-running Detect Retakes no longer wipes them.
- Playback no longer dies right after a very short clip. A slow frame preload finishing after the playhead had already passed could wedge the track and stop playback with a "Video decode stalled" error.
- Save integrity tightened. Edits landing mid-save are no longer marked as saved. File→Open and File→New re-check for unsaved changes after you pick a file, where a long-open file picker used to silently discard changes made in the meantime. A "Saving…" dialog with a progress bar and green checkmark confirms every manual save, and importing or removing media now counts as an unsaved change.
- Umm removal works on denoised recordings. Digitally silent audio used to fool the noise-floor measurement, so pauses around removed umms didn't tighten.
- Assistant-made silence cuts no longer click. They get the same short seam fade the Delete Silence dialog applies.
- Double-click a
.sailerfile to open that project. The XML export dialog also prefills the project name. - Review tab is easier to scan. Each questioned word now shows its surrounding words with the word highlighted, and editing a word no longer makes it jump around the list.
- Keyboard shortcuts go quiet while a dialog is open. No more accidental timeline edits behind a popup.
- Module names clarified: "Umm Removal" is now Detect Umms and "Retakes" is now Detect Retakes, each with a "Detect Only" option listed first.
- Module run dialogs inherit your timeline selection instead of defaulting to everything.
- Half-typed assistant messages survive a crash or restart, saved per project.
- Dialog polish across the app: a consistent radio-button control in eleven dialogs, better sizing for Rough Cut and Camera Selection, and consistent spacing.
