0.3.0
0.3.0 was released on 2026-08-12. It covers everything shipped since 0.2.8.
Highlights
- Premiere XML export imports at 100% scale. Exported sequences used to land in Premiere with every clip at 109.4% scale because the XML never declared the pixel shape. It now declares square pixels, so clips import at their real size with no manual rescaling.
- New Retake Review panel. Every re-recorded sentence shows up as a group of takes you can audition: play buttons, number keys to switch takes, and an auto-play mode that loops the group. Pick the winner and it persists with the project. Transcript pills on the timeline carry a colored take badge, the winning take gets a green ring, and unused takes can be removed in one action.
- Media bin imports no longer wait in line. Dropping footage in while other files were processing used to take about a minute to show up. Imports now appear immediately, new files are auto-selected and scrolled into view, and a right-click Classify submenu lets you label a clip by hand instead of waiting for the AI. Failed auto-classifications collect in one errors tab in the status bar instead of stacking red popups.
- Premiere-style timeline and panel controls. Alt + mouse wheel zooms the timeline anchored at the cursor, Ctrl + wheel pans sideways, and the zoom slider keeps the playhead on screen instead of drifting away. The tilde key (
`) maximizes whichever panel the mouse is over and restores it on a second press. - Closing the app really shuts it down. Fixed a 0.2.8 bug where closing the window could leave several Solar Sailer processes running in the background and make the next launch silently fail. Shutdown now always finishes, within about 25 seconds even if something inside hangs, and leftover processes from older sessions are cleaned up at launch. If a launch is ever blocked by a stuck session, you now get an error box explaining how to clear it instead of nothing happening. Choosing Cancel at the "Save changes?" prompt also leaves you with a fully working editor.
- Projects protect your work. Switching projects or quitting with unsaved changes now prompts Save / Don't Save / Cancel instead of silently discarding. The title bar shows the project name with an asterisk when there are unsaved changes. Saves keep the project name, markers, in/out points, zoom and snap state, and a save can no longer write stale data if you switch projects mid-save.
Fixes and improvements
- Batch Process groups the file list under Video and Audio headers, marks already-processed files with a green check (hover to see which modules ran), and shows per-module counts of what's already covered. Finished tasks show elapsed time in the completion message, the Background Tasks list, and the end-of-batch summary.
- Face Tracking has a new Only analyze transcribed speech option. It skips everything without a transcript sentence, including fully silent files, which makes runs much faster on talky footage. Speech recorded on a separate device counts, as long as that file is synced. The option needs Transcribe and Sync to have run on the project first, and stays greyed out until they have.
- Slow drives no longer kill processing. Background media jobs are only given up on after five minutes with no progress, rather than a fixed time budget, and a failed Conforming Audio or Generating Waveform job retries automatically.
- Missing API keys are a prompt, not an error. If a key is missing you get a "set your key" prompt with a button to the API Keys screen. Saved keys apply without a restart.
- Sync no longer fails when your renamed tracks collide with the names it wants. It picks the next free track number.
- Delete Silence / Delete Non-motion / Delete Non-looking skip locked tracks and report how many clips were skipped instead of aborting the whole run.
- Audio engine retries automatically if it is slow to start (previously one failed try meant no sound for the whole session), with a "Restart audio" recovery toast if it still can't.
- Contributor Mode is a new opt-in checkbox in Preferences → Diagnostics. It includes your computer name, file paths, and project names in crash reports, so problems can be traced to the machine they happened on. Off by default, and it needs Send crash reports on to do anything.
- Cancelling a task that later batch steps depend on stops the batch with a quiet "Batch stopped" note instead of a red error.
- Right-click Delete, Ripple Delete, and Split now respect the Linked Selection toggle, matching the keyboard shortcuts.
- The Ripple tool was removed from the toolbar (and its
Bshortcut), because it behaved identically to Selection. - Ctrl+N creates a new project from inside the editor, not just on the welcome screen.
- The AI assistant's saves and module runs now go through the same paths as the UI: Save As writes the right name, the unsaved-changes asterisk clears, and agent-launched runs show up in Background Tasks and the Review tab.
- Look-score overlay bars now encode "looking at camera" correctly. Confident not-looking stretches used to draw tall bars.
- Help → Documentation opens the docs site in your browser.
- The app typeface ships inside the app, so there is no font download on launch and text renders identically offline.
Outside the app
A temporary website is up at solarsailer.com, and this documentation site at docs.solarsailer.com now carries a full user manual.
