Batch Process Your Footage
Batch Process runs several AI tools on the same footage. It is useful when a group of files needs the same preparation and some tools depend on results from earlier ones.
Set up a batch
- Select files in the media bin, or place the footage on the timeline.
- Open the Process menu and click Batch Process…. For bin footage, you can also right-click the selection and choose Batch Process….
- Choose Selected in Bin or On Timeline.
- Check the files you want to process.
- Check each tool you want to run, then adjust the settings that appear below it.
- Click the run button.
If Batch Process… is greyed out, select at least one bin file or add footage to the timeline. The dialog starts with Selected in Bin when you open it with bin files selected. Otherwise it starts with On Timeline. Selected bin files begin checked. In timeline mode, files with audio or video begin checked.
A greyed-out tool cannot run on the checked files. The reason beside it tells you what is missing, such as audio, a transcript, or the two items that Sync needs. You can include Transcribe in the same batch as tools that need a transcript.
Some tools may suit only part of a mixed selection. Solar Sailer runs those tools on the files they can use and skips the rest. A check beside a file means it already has saved results from one or more tools. Hover over the check to see which ones before you spend time running them again.
If a selected tool needs an API key that has not been added, the batch does not start. Open API Keys, add the requested key, then run the batch again. See Run an AI Tool for API key setup and the shared background-task controls.
Let Solar Sailer choose the order
You do not arrange the tools yourself. When you choose both tools in a pair, Solar Sailer waits for the first result before starting the tool that uses it. This makes a real difference in these cases:
- Find Characters runs after Face Tracking.
- Detect Umms runs after Transcribe.
- Rough Cut runs after Detect Retakes and Detect Umms, so it can use their results.
- Face Tracking waits for Transcribe and Sync when Only analyze transcribed speech is on.
Know what the batch will change
Read the settings under each checked tool before you start. Some choices change the timeline as soon as that tool finishes.
Sync has Place clips on timeline after analysis checked by default. Turn it off if you only want to prepare sync data for later placement.
Detect Only is the review-first choice for Detect Retakes and Detect Umms. It saves the suggestions without cutting the timeline. Review retakes in the Retake review panel. Apply detected umms later by opening Clip and clicking Remove Umms…. Choosing Delete or Ripple Delete for retakes, or Disable, Delete, or Ripple Delete for umms, applies those changes when detection finishes.
Rough Cut only saves ratings and suggested cuts. A batch never applies them for you. Review and apply them later by opening Clip and clicking Apply Rough Cut…. See Build a Rough Cut.
If a task stops
If you cancel a task, or if one fails, later tools may not start when they need that task's result. Tasks that already started are not rolled back, and completed results remain available.
