Install and Launch

Install Solar Sailer on Windows, start it for the first time, and keep it up to date.

Install Solar Sailer

Solar Sailer runs on 64-bit Windows. The installer is named SolarSailer-Setup-<version>.exe.

  1. Double-click the installer.
  2. Follow the installer. You can change the install folder if needed.

Solar Sailer installs for your Windows account, so you don't need admin access. The installer is signed by Proko LLC and includes all required software.

Launch the app

Start Solar Sailer from the Windows Start menu. The first launch after installing or updating can take longer than later launches. Keep the splash window open while startup finishes.

When startup finishes, you land on the welcome screen. From there you create or open a project. See Create Your First Project.

If a launch does nothing, or you get an error box titled Solar Sailer is already running, a previous session is stuck in the background. See Troubleshooting.

Keep the app up to date

Solar Sailer checks for updates shortly after launch and downloads them in the background. You can keep working while the download runs.

  1. Save your project when you're ready to update.
  2. Click Restart now on the Update ready card. Solar Sailer closes, installs the update, and reopens.

If you click Later, the card closes, but the downloaded update still installs the next time you quit Solar Sailer. Until then, a dot on Help marks the waiting update, and the menu offers Restart to Install with its version number.

To check manually, open Help and click Check for Updates. This also downloads an available update. After a failed background download, the menu offers Download Update so you can retry.
