FAQ

Answers about platform support, AI costs, privacy, and the limits you should know before installing Solar Sailer.

Does it replace my editor?

No. Solar Sailer is for building a rough cut on its own timeline. It exports Premiere Pro XML so you can finish the edit in Premiere.

Can it render my final video?

No. Its current export is an edit list for Premiere Pro, not a finished video file. See Export to Premiere Pro for what carries over.

Is there a Mac version?

Not yet. Solar Sailer runs on Windows today. A Mac version is planned.

Does my footage get uploaded?

Your original video files stay on your drive. Some AI features send material taken from your footage to AI providers through your own accounts. Depending on the feature, this can include audio for transcription, transcript text, small sample frames, short audio excerpts, and cropped faces. The AI assistant may also send project context such as clip names, timeline structure, and transcript text.

Automatic clip labeling is on by default. You can switch it off in Preferences before importing media. The privacy policy lists what each feature sends and which company receives it.

Does my footage train AI models?

We will not train generative AI image or video models on your media. Data sent to an outside AI provider is also subject to that provider's terms and privacy policy.

What about DaVinci Resolve?

Planned, not shipped. Premiere Pro XML import and export work today.

Do I need my own API keys?

Yes, at launch. You supply them and pay the AI providers directly, on your own accounts. A built-in option with AI included is planned, and your own keys will keep working after it ships.

How is the AI metered?

At launch, your providers meter and bill your usage under their own pricing. The planned built-in option will include an allowance measured in minutes of footage processed. Agent conversations won't count against that allowance. Very heavy agent use will move to a slower lane instead of stopping.

Can the agent break my edit?

Its timeline edits aren't permanent. Ctrl+Z reverses them one at a time, just like your own edits. Revert turn can roll back everything from one exchange, including files the assistant wrote, if the whole turn can still be reverted cleanly. See The AI Assistant for the conflict case.
