Markers
Markers pin a moment, or a span of time, on the timeline so you can find it again later. As of 0.4.0 you can name, annotate, and recolor them, work with range markers, and manage everything from a Markers tab.
A point marker draws as a small colored tab on the ruler with a line running down through the tracks. A range marker stretches a tinted band across its span instead.
Add a marker
To add a marker at the playhead, press M or click the Add Marker (M) button in the tools strip on the left edge of the timeline. Pressing M on a frame that already has a marker updates that marker instead of stacking a duplicate.
To add a marker somewhere other than the playhead, right-click an empty spot in the timeline ruler and choose Add Marker. The marker lands where you clicked. Choose Add Range Marker instead to drop a marker spanning a short range from that spot. Its editor opens right away so you can adjust it.
You can also turn a point marker into a range marker directly. Point at either edge of its tab in the ruler until the cursor becomes a resize arrow, then drag outward to pull it into a range. To turn it back into a point marker, clear its End time in the editor, described next.
Name, annotate, and recolor a marker
Double-click a marker, or right-click it and choose Edit Marker…, to open its editor:
- Name. The name shows under the marker's tab in the ruler, shortened with an ellipsis when space is tight.
- Note, for longer text. On a range marker, the note also shows inside the band on the ruler.
- Color, a row of swatches.
- Start and End times. Type a timecode or a frame number, or drag across the field to scrub it and watch the marker move live. A point marker's End starts empty. Give it one and the marker becomes a range. Clear it and the range becomes a point marker again, and its note is discarded with the range.
There's no save button. A change applies when you press Enter or move to the next field, and each one is its own undo step. Press Escape or click anywhere else to close the editor.
Hover a marker to see its name and note in a tooltip. A marker with neither shows no tooltip.
Move and resize markers
Drag a point marker's tab in the ruler, or drag its line anywhere in the track area. On a range marker, drag the band to move the whole range, or drag either edge to resize it. Escape mid-drag cancels the drag.
Jump between markers
Press Shift+M to send the playhead to the next marker after it. Press Ctrl+Shift+M to jump back to the previous one. A range marker counts by its start.
The Markers tab
The Markers tab sits in the Properties panel on the right side of the window, next to Properties, Effects, and Review. It lists every marker in timeline order: its color, name, note, and time. Markers made by the AI carry a small sparkle, the same badge they get on the ruler.
- Click a row to jump the playhead to that marker.
- Double-click the name or the note to edit it right in the row.
- Click the row's color swatch to pick a different color.
- Click the row's × to delete that marker. No confirmation, and undo brings it back.
Delete markers
Right-click a marker on the timeline and choose Delete Marker, or use the × on its row in the Markers tab.
To clear markers in bulk, use the Clear All button at the top of the Markers tab. It asks for confirmation, then deletes every marker as one undo step. The arrow next to it offers narrower sweeps: Clear All AI Markers removes only the sparkle-badged ones, and By Color removes every marker of one color.
When snapping is on, clips you drag or trim snap to markers. The markers themselves don't snap while you drag them. See moving and trimming clips.
