Export Subtitles and Transcripts
How to turn your transcripts into subtitle files or plain-text transcripts, matching either your edited timeline or the full recordings.
You need transcribed media first. See Transcribe Your Footage.
Export subtitles
- Choose File → Export → Subtitles / Transcript….
- Pick the files, formats, and settings described below.
- Click Export… and choose where the files go.
The dialog has the file list on the left and the settings on the right. Only media with a transcript is listed. If nothing is transcribed yet, the list just says so and the Export… button stays disabled.
Choose what the subtitles follow
The Export switch at the top of the settings is the big decision:
- Timeline edit, the default, follows your current cut. Words you deleted or disabled are left out, and the times match the timeline, so the file lines up with an export of your edit.
- Full transcript ignores your edits. Each recording gets one file covering everything that was transcribed, timed against the original recording.
Pick files and formats
Under Files, tick the recordings to include. Files used on your timeline start ticked. The Select button offers quick picks: All with transcript, All on timeline, and All quality audio.
Under Format, tick one or more of SRT, VTT, and Plain text. You get one file per format. SRT works in Premiere, Resolve, YouTube, and most players. VTT is for browsers and web players. Plain text is a readable transcript with no cue timing.
Two Optional Fields checkboxes round it out. Speaker labels marks the lines where the speaker changes. Timestamps puts a time like [00:12:35] at the start of each plain-text paragraph, and only affects plain text, since SRT and VTT always carry times.
Skip cut material in a full transcript
In Timeline edit mode there's nothing to filter, because your timeline already reflects your edits. In Full transcript mode, the Apply Module Results checkboxes let AI-tool results clean the text:
- Retakes keeps only the winning take of each retake group.
- Umm removal drops the umms that Detect Umms flagged.
- Rough cut drops the sentences a Rough Cut would remove. It starts unticked.
A checkbox is greyed out when none of the ticked files has that tool's results, and its tooltip says so, for example No retake results on the selected files.
Where the files go
In Timeline edit mode, an Output choice decides how many files you get: One combined file, the default, or One file per media. A Full transcript export is always one file per recording.
With One combined file, a save dialog opens with your project's name prefilled. Otherwise you pick a folder, and each file is named after its recording, like interview_cam1.srt.
When it's done, a notification reads Exported 3 files and lists the paths. If a file had nothing usable, for example a ticked recording with no footage in the timeline, the export still finishes and the notification lists a warning naming that file.
